It’s Martinis and IMAX at Fernbank Museum and it’s been an every-Friday-night event (January through November) in Atlanta for years. It is perhaps one of the coolest places in town to sip cocktails on a Friday night, under the 45-foot-long meat-eating Giganotosaurus, and the 90-plus-foot plant eating dinosaur, Argentinosaurus (yes, I had to look those up). It’s almost what John Hammond imagined in Jurassic Park, without the threat of being eaten.
Last week, we saw an amazing film double-feature of Van Gogh and The Old Man and the Sea (showing through 3/26/10 only – see website for upcoming features). Van Gogh was particularly stunning – a must-see for art lovers. On double-feature nights, there are only two film times – 8 PM and 10 PM – but after March 26, showtimes are 7 PM, 8 PM, 9 PM and 10 PM.
Tickets, which include admission to the IMAX film, are $12 for adults, $11 for students and seniors, and $7 for museum members. (If, for some inexplicable reason, you want to enjoy the cocktails portion without the fantastic IMAX experience, the cover charge is $7 – but take it from me, the film is part of the package, part of the evening, and it worth the extra few bucks to make it part of your night.) You can order your tickets online, or you can call 404-929-6400.
