When a friend of mine told me about Miss Mamie’s Cupcakes, Cakes and Such on Marietta Square, I knew I had to check it out. Before I even set foot inside, I knew I would love it.
Miss Mamie is Mamie Jo Doyle, and she is as charming as her name makes you think she is. I got to meet her the day I visited (you will, too, as she is on site every day). Her story is a bit of a modern-day fairy tale: Born and raised in a small town in Michigan, Mamie bought the bakery she interned in shortly after graduating from Le Courdon Bleu Atlanta. With the help of her parents, who helped transform the shop into the delightful, enchanting space it is – her dad built the tables and benches, her mom sewed the tablecloths and wall hangings, framed photos of her cousins adorn the walls.
The cupcakes, though, take center stage – two huge cases display Mamie’s handiwork, which is nothing short of gorgeous, from the expected flavors (such as strawberry, devil’s food, and carrot) to the intriguing (like Guinness, pistachio, and s’mores) to the downright decadent (banana peanut butter, caramel spiced apple, and red velvet). Each day, Mamie posts the freshly baked flavors on her home page. I bought three – a Guinness cupcake with buttercream icing, an almond joy cupcake, and a strawberry cupcake. Each one was a little bit of heaven. And how’s this for a great deal – buy 5 cupcakes and get 1 free!
So visit Miss Mamie’s for a little bit of heaven in the form of a cupcake – ask for Mamie herself! And tell her 365Atlanta sent you!
