I was first introduced to OU For U in Sandy Springs during the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival last year, when we had a VIP in town who needed to find a Kosher restaurant. Someone suggested I take her to OU For U – and that was when I discovered the yummiest falafel in Atlanta!
You have probably driven by OU For U and never even known it’s there. It’s located in a nondescript office building on Hammond Drive, near the intersection of Peachtree Dunwoody Road. It’s small, with only a handful of tables, so it’s best to avoid the lunch rush if you want to dine in.
A couple of my favorite menu items are the lentil soup, which is lightly spiced and really flavorful, and the bourekas, puffed pastry filled with either potato, mushrooms or cheese. But my absolute favorite – and the one thing that I order every time – is the falafel sandwich, served in a fluffy pita with lettuce, tomato and tahini sauce. It is – far and away – the best falafel I’ve ever had.
OU For U has been open just over a year and is one of only a few Kosher restaurants in the Atlanta area. The owner, Ran Dori, saw a need to be filled in the Atlanta community, and you can see the popularity of the place the minute you walk in. The atmosphere is always cozy – Israeli music plays softly in the background – and the tables are filled with patrons enjoying their meals and lively conversation or a quiet meal with a book.
Needless to say, the VIP for the film festival was not only glad I was able to bring her to a Kosher restaurant, but she also loved the food. And I think you will, too! And of course, tell them 365Atlanta sent you!
