At the suggestion of a good friend, we tried Leon’s Full Service in Decatur last Wednesday for lunch. We were looking for somewhere to enjoy the beautiful weather on the patio – unfortunately the blizzard of pollen we were experiencing that day nixed those plans for us, but the patio looks quite cool and once pollen season is over, we will surely be back to try it out!
We were, however, quite pleased with the unique menu and funky atmosphere. The menu was perfect for a casual lunch. We started with the peppadews – which are, in the words of our server, “little red South African peppers that are shipped in vinegar to kill the hotness,” and then stuffed with goat cheese – probably one of the most different appetizers I’ve has in a long time – and I’m craving more just thinking about them! For lunch, I had the crispy skin mountain trout with endive & radicchio, cashews, apricot vinaigrette (pictured – check out the gorgeous, bright colors on that plate!) – it was light and flavorful and even more delicious than I thought it would be when I ordered it! My hubby tried the coastal shrimp gyro, tomato, red onion pickles, greens, cucumber yogurt and the side salad of baby mixed lettuces, chèvre, pumpkin seeds, orange tabasco vinaigrette (the vinaigrette was fantastic – definitely want to have that on my plate next time!).
They’re open for lunch every day except Monday and are open late every night – making Leon’s a fantastic late-night hang-out, perfect for late dinners or drinks and snacks. Leon’s features special late-night menus (“Stay up late and good things will happen!”) and every Monday night is Leon’s Flight Night with special pairings for each beer. Special beer dinner dates will be posted soon, so stay tuned to their website for more info!
Here’s what I plan to order when I go there next time (just to get your mouth watering a little more): grilled all natural pork chop, fuji apple-turnip gratin, maple-cider glaze and a baby arugula side salad with radishes, smoked pecans, garlic creme fraiche dressing, grana padano. We’ll probably start with the Pub Frites with a couple of their 14 specialty dipping sauces – I’m thinking bacon tarragon mayonnaise and madras curry catsup. Mmmmm… Tell them 365Atlanta sent you!
Pollen, pollen, go away – I want to enjoy Leon’s patio someday…soon!
