Lately, I’ve been taking my dining suggestions solely from Twitter. I love reading what people say about the places they’re eating and that’s how I found Urban pL8.
I brought my friend Ann there for lunch today, not knowing much about it except that people are raving about it on Twitter. The bright, modern, casual space was filled with sunlight and, at 1:30 PM, still had a strong lunch crowd (a good sign, in my opinion!). Everything on the Urban pL8 menu looked scrumptious and it was difficult (since we were already starving) to choose what to order. I decided on the Red Curry Pan-Seared Tofu, with sweet potatoes, green beans, basil and coconut milk (the colors were quite vibrant and enticing), with a side of braised kale; Ann chose the Greek-Style Turkey Burger with Kalamata olives, feta, cucumber mint yogurt and mixed greens, with a side of roasted beets with goat cheese and almonds.
Our server was incredibly attentive and made our experience even better. Our iced tea glasses were never more than half empty (if you know me, you know that’s a biggie for me – brownie points!) and our empty plates didn’t linger long in front of us before being cleared (another biggie!).
It may also interest you to know that Urban pL8 is committed to featuring local ingredients, seasonal fare, and sustainable products. These have all become buzz words in the restaurant scene, but they’re important things to consider when choosing your dining experiences. For me, it makes me feel good about the establishments I’m supporting and lets me know that they are aware of their impact on the local environment and economy.
After having a great lunch and looking over the brunch menu online, I want to go back soon for brunch. The “bottomless” Bloody Marys and Huevos Rancheros caught my attention – I may even dream about them tonight!
