#134 – Edible Garden and Outdoor Kitchen at the Atlanta Botanical Garden – See Chef Demos Every Saturday & Sunday!
One of the fun things about writing 365Atlanta.com is the emails I get from readers with suggestions of things to write about. I had a great email from Chef Megan McCarthy a few weeks ago, introducing me to the new Edible Garden and Outdoor Kitchen at the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
Every Saturday and Sunday through October 31, 2010, at noon and 1:00 PM, in the Edible Garden Outdoor Kitchen, Atlanta Botanical Garden presents the Garden Chef showcasing fresh seasonal vegetables, fruits and herbs in delicious, easy-to-prepare-at-home dishes. The chef picks a vegetable from the onsite Edible Garden and whips up a quick and easy recipe. Last week, Chef Megan McCarthy (from Healthy Eating 101, pictured) demonstrated Pineapple Walnut Coleslaw – an updated, healthy version of this summer cook-out favorite, using fresh red and green cabbage from the onsite Edible Garden. Some other recipes that have been demonstrated this summer include Beet Tabbouleh with Yellow Leaf Lettuce & Red Velvet Lettuce, Grilled Vegetable Gazpacho, Kale Quinoa Salad, Pineapple Guava Mint Iced Tea, and Roasted Beet & Yogurt Party Dip. During the demos, you can taste the dish, too, so you can decide which recipes you want to make when you get home. The recipes will then appear on the Atlanta Botanical Garden website after appearing in the Outdoor Kitchen, available for FREE download to make them at home.
The Atlanta Botanical Garden is lush and green and in full bloom right now. Plan a trip there on the weekend and take a break from the heat in the gorgeous new Outdoor Kitchen, watch a chef demonstration, and get some great ideas for how you can prepare healthy, fresh foods at home – right from your garden or your local farmers market! Admission to the Outdoor Kitchen is FREE with your paid admission to Atlanta Botanical Garden.
