Most of you have probably already made your Fourth of July plans by now, but on the off-chance that you are a last-minute person, this post is for you. Many cities around Atlanta are planning their Independence Day celebrations for Saturday the 3rd (like Marietta) or Monday the 5th (check back for tomorrow’s post to get details on how to extend your celebrating into Monday in Dunwoody!), but Atlanta’s two biggest celebrations are happening tomorrow, on July 4th, and here are some details to help you plan your day…in case you haven’t already!

Fourth of July at Lenox Square Mall is the Southeast’s largest Independence Day celebration. About 200,000 people attend annually, so if you’re looking for a huge celebration, this is it. There will be live music on the mainstage, withParty on the Moon, a local Atlanta cover band, headlining at 7:30 PM. It’s an all-day event, with the Kids’ Zone opening at noon, the mall open regular hours from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and a breathtaking 20+ minute fireworks display at dark, approximately 9:40 PM according to the mall’s website.

Fourth of July Celebration at Centennial Olympic Park provides another all-day, family-friendly event, complete with children’s activities and live music. Childrens’ activities run from12:00 PM until 4:00 PM and the free live music concert begins around 5:00 PM with R&B cover band the 911 Band, continuing at 6:30 PM with Edens Edge, a country-pop trio, and ending with headliners the Smithereens, an 80s cover band, around 8:00 PM. Celebrity Chef Sara Moulton will also be there, at the Mission Menus Kitchen, sponsored by Mission Tortillas – come sample some of her delicious, family-friendly recipes, created to serve a family of five for under $10. The AirTran Airways Fireworks Spectacular, set to heartwarming patriotic music, will begin at dark (it will also be televised on Atlanta’s 11Alive WXIA-TV).

It’s not too late to plan a fabulous Fourth of July with your friends and family! With so much going on around the city, you can celebrate all throughout the holiday weekend, straight on through Monday. And remember, you can take MARTA to both celebrations above – avoid traffic delays and parking problems!

Whatever you do this July 4th weekend – be safe, and have a happy holiday!
