#145 – The Patio Café, Bakery and Takery in Johns Creek – A Neighborhood Favorite

When The Patio – Café, Bakery and Takery opened in Johns Creek a couple of years ago, its unassuming façade and shopping center location (at the end of a Target shopping center) did not inspire confidence that they would be around for too long. Too many local sandwich shops come and go in similar locations, especially in the suburbs. But apparently The Patio has something those others don’t. I’m not sure what it is, but I do know this – they’re good at what they do and they’re doing it better than anyone else in the area.

They have cornered the market on fresh sandwiches, soups, quiche and casseroles in the Johns Creek area. They combine a seemingly never-ending eat-in crowd with a strong bakery and take-away/make-at-home entrée business. There doesn’t seem to ever be a time when there is not a steady stream of customers in line to place an order. the-patio-cafe-bakery-takery-5950-state-bridge-road-johns-creek-ga-chicken-salad

The Cafe has a wide selection of sandwiches and salads, soups and quiches of the day, and bakery items, like cookies, muffins, croissants, and more. Their salads are fresh, crispy and tantalizing, with some great options, such as Ultimate Salad (diced chicken, tomato, shredded carrots, dried cranberries, walnuts, bleu cheese crumbles with balsamic vinaigrette), Strawberry Salad (strawberries, oranges, bleu cheese, walnuts with citrus vinaigrette), and Mandarin Salad (mandarin oranges, celery, chicken, toasted almonds with citrus vinaigrette), and a number of prepared salads, including homemade chicken, tuna and egg salad, and pimiento cheese – all are low-carb diet friendly (pictured: The Combo Plate with two scoops of chicken salad). Their sandwiches are of generous portion and feature some deliciously tempting choices, especially my favorite, the BLT. It’s one of the best BLTs I’ve ever had, outside of a diner BLT – with a huge portion of bacon, instead of just a few measly pieces. Every order is served with a heavenly little mini-muffin of the day, sometimes poppyseed, sometimes blueberry, always yummy!

At The Bakery, in addition to the daily offerings in the bakery case, you can also special-order special occasion cakes and cookies,  bars, petit fors, and muffins. There are always tins of Coca-Cola cake and yeast rolls for sale to take home, to go with your take-home casserole from The Takery. Choose from a variety of casseroles in different sizes, perfect for busy moms, dinners on the go, and anyone who wants an easy, delicious, throw-it-in-the-oven meal. Mouthwatering choices include Beef Enchilada, Turkey Tetrazini, Meatloaf, Lemon Baked Chicken, and my favorite, Chicken Artichoke.

I love The Patio for lunch with friends or clients, for casseroles to bring home and for that middle-of-the-day cookie craving. I think you will, too!
