#152 – Bestselling Author Jennifer Weiner Appearing This Friday at the Margaret Mitchell House – July 16, 2010

The Lit Center at the Margaret Mitchell House hosts periodic lectures and appearances by bestselling and award-winning authors, who stop by to discuss their latest books and publications. This week is particularly exciting for me because one of my favorite current authors, Jennifer Weiner, is coming to The Lit Center, Friday night, July 16, 2010. jennifer-weiner-fly-away-home-lit-center-margaret-mitchell-house-atlanta-ga

This Friday at 7:00 PM, Jennifer Weiner will be discussing her newest book, Fly Away Home:

In her highly anticipated eighth book, Jennifer Weiner introduces three unforgettable women, Sylvie Woodruff, and her two daughters, Diana and Lizzie. Each woman is forced to reconsider her life when a public scandal draws them into the painful glare of the national spotlight. Written with an irresistible blend of heartbreak and hilarity, Fly Away Home is an unforgettable story of a mother and two daughters who, after a lifetime of distance, finally learn to find refuge in one another.

Jennifer Weiner is also the author of Good in Bed and In Her Shoes (among many others), the latter of which was made into a movie in 2005, starring Cameron Diaz, Toni Collette, Shirley MacLaine. According to her official bio on her site, “She likes sunsets, sushi, reality TV and long walks on the beach and dislikes fake people, humidity, and entrenched sexism in the literary world.” Her Twitter feed (follow her @jenniferweiner) is as laugh-out-loud funny as her books, especially her live commentary on reality television shows and the unreal characters of same. Her characters are relatable a and real; her books make you laugh and cry and say, “Hey! that sounds like me!” Her biting humor and heartwarming storytelling make her one of my favorite authors – if you’re a fan, you know exactly what I mean!

For this lecture, as well as all lectures at The Lit Center at the Margaret Mitchell House, reservations are required, and admission is only $5 for members and $10 for nonmembers (and FREE to Annual Fund Donors – obviously, you know who you are!), unless otherwise noted on the website.
