#158 – Healthy Smoothies and a Grand Slam at Arden’s Garden

When it’s this hot outside, there’s nothing more refreshing than a fresh, fruity smoothie! My favorite place to stop in for an all-natural smoothie is Arden’s Garden.

Even if you’ve never been to an Arden’s Garden location, chances are you’ve seen the bottled juices at Harry’s, Whole Foods or Kroger. Arden’s Garden was started by Arden Zinn, who is a lifelong believer in the health benefits of fresh juices, that they are the key to good health. What I love about Arden’s Garden smoothies and juices are that there are no sweeteners – they are simply made from fruit and vegetables. Also, unlike some other large-chain smoothie shops, your smoothie is all juice and fruit – not half ice and other fillers. You watch your server make your smoothie – scooping frozen fruit (pictured – below) into the blender with fresh juice (all squeezed fresh daily) and you know that you’re getting exactly what you’re paying for!

For a great pick-me-up, you can also try the Arden’s Garden Grand Slam (pictured) – one ounce each of four juices: wheatgrass, ginger, lemon and cranberry. Each one has its own benefits, which your Arden’s Garden server can explain to you in more detail or you can pick up a pamphlet at any location. Here’s the short version, from my conversation with the very helpful attendant at the Buckhead location: wheatgrass is a rich source of vitamins and helps to nourish organs and detoxify your body; ginger warms your body and is great for digestive health; lemon is high in vitamins A, C and folic acid and has been used for ages as a liver toner; and cranberry has lots of vitamin C, is a powerful anti-oxidant and cranberries are known as nature’s antibiotic. Basically, the wheatgrass tastes like you’re drinking grass, the ginger will burn your throat, the lemon makes you pucker like never before, and the cranberry is a sweet ending to the four – but you can truly feel the difference in your body after taking them and it really makes you feel great!

You can also inquire at Arden’s Garden about their detox classes or you can make an appointment for a private consultation with Arden herself, who will teach you about the health benefits of fresh fruit and vegetable juices for your diet.

But whether you’re interested in all the healthy reasons why you should be adding more fruit and vegetable juices to your diet or you’re just looking for a delicious, refreshing treat on a hot summer day, I think you’ll love Arden’s Garden! They also have a huge selection of other healthy snacks, but the star of the show is definitely the smoothies. Go check it out – it’s going to be a hot one today…don’t you feel like a smoothie?
