#164 – Celebrate the 146th Anniversary of the Battle of Atlanta Today, Saturday – July 24, 2010 -with a Full Day of Events and Fun!
One hundred and forty-six years (and two days) ago, the Battle of Atlanta of the Civil War began. Little did the men fighting on either side of this historic battle know, their bravery and actions would be commemorated long after…and would even get a cool logo.
There have been events throughout this week, but the big day of events is today – Saturday, July 24, 2010. It is a day of remembrance and history, but also of fun! There are so many things to do and something for everyone, including a House Tour, Van and Walking Tours, a re-creation of the Frontlines with Re-enactment Soldiers and artillery, a Civil War Village with civilian re-enactors, historic music concerts, comedic and dramatic storytelling and performances, tours of Oakland Cemetery, shopping and dining in East Atlanta and Kirkwood and more! There are so many events to choose from, you can come out for a few hours or spend the whole day!
This is a great way to spend the day with family and friends, celebrating a huge part of Atlanta’s history and gearing up for the sesquicentennial of the Civil War, which begins in 2011. Atlanta is planning exciting and enormous events to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the start of the war.
