#179 – First Friday Art Walk Tonight on Historic Marietta Square – Enjoy Art, Shopping, and Fun! Friday, August 6, 2010
Tonight is the first of Marietta Square’s First Friday Art Walk, Session #2 – August, September, and October. Marietta’s First Friday Art Walk is more than just a community art show – it’s a free self-guided tour of the Marietta Square’s eclectic art scene, which includes, museums, galleries, restaurants, boutiques and cultural venues, each sponsoring and showcasing artists.
There’s so much to see and do at Marietta’s First Friday Art Walk! From 5:00 to 9:00 PM tonight – August 6, 2010 – you can stroll the lovely Marietta Square and see the amazing art of local artists showcased int he Art Walk. While you’re there, why not have dinner, drinks or dessert at one of the Square’s fabulous eateries and shop in some of the great boutiques – many of which are participants in the Art Walk? Enjoy free snacks and drinks, artist demonstrations, and live music while perusing the art and wandering the Square. You can also visit the rooftop terrace at The Earl Smith Strand Theatre, one of the participating venues, and enjoy Brew with a View. The Marietta Trolley will also be running to provide complimentary rides among the various venues.
For a map of August participating venues along the Square, you can visit the First Friday Art Walk website – there are over 30 venues participating for this month’s art walk! You can also pick up a map at the Art Walk Headquarters Tent, which is located in the Courtyard and Alley along the Marietta Welcome Center & Visitors Bureau, 4 Depot Street. Choose your own route for your self-guided tour of artists and venues. Look for the official Art Walk banner in the window to identify the participating venues, and have your map stamped by the venues you visit; return your completed map (stamped with at least 15 locations) to Art Walk Headquarters or a participating venue for your chance to win a “Hip to Be Square” gift package.
Parking is free and plentiful – at the Cobb County parking deck on Cherokee Street (free after 5:00 PM) or behind the welcome center on Mill Street. There are also spots all along the Square, which are free for the event, or you can catch the Historic Marietta Trolley Co. free shuttle service from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Trolley stops are marked by flags around the square and can be found on your Art Walk map.
If you can’t make it tonight, mark your calendar for the two remaining dates for the year: Friday, September 3 and Friday, October 1!
