If you live in Atlanta, you have probably heard of “Silent Clark” by now, either on Twitter, Facebook, or on news shows such as CBS Better Mornings Atlanta. If you haven’t heard of him, here’s his story: “Silent Clark” is Clark Harris (on Twitter: @SilentClark). His story is an incredible one. In an effort to silence cancer and to raise awareness and money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in memory of his mother, Clark has not spoken since May 1st, except via social media, such as Twitter and Facebook. No email. No phone. No writing on a dry erase board. And he’s a newlywed, on top of all of that!

If you follow @SilentClark on Twitter, you can follow him throughout his day – his conversations with his wife, his friends, his servers in restaurants. You can feel his frustration when his phone battery is dying (which means no more talking until it’s re-charged). But most of all, it’s a fascinating glimpse into the life of a person who is truly dedicated to his cause and willing to give up a basic function – speech! – in order to raise money and awareness.

So that’s the background. Here’s the even better parts: first, Clark has raised (as of Wednesday 8/4) $14,816 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Second, he’s breaking his silence and you’re invited to attend the party!

The “Break the Silence” party is this Saturday, August 7, 2010 from 7:00 to 10:00 PM at TWELVE Hotel & Residences Centennial Park. Admission is only $25 in advance or $35 at the door, with the proceeds going to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and includes food by Room at TWELVE Restaurant and two drink tickets (any drinks beyond your two tickets will be available from the cash bar). There will also be door prizes and a silent auction featuring items from the party’s sponsors.

I hope you’ll make plans to join me at this great party! Tickets are selling fast, so get yours today! Click here to purchase your tickets online (and save $10) – you’ll also be able to make additional donations at the party.

It’s going to be a fantastic night of celebration and renewed commitment to keep up the fight against cancer…just a little louder from here on out!
