A couple of weeks ago, I had my first visit to BLT Steak at the W Atlanta Downtown. My friend, Tara, treated me to an amazing lunch and introduced me to one of the most sinfully delicious bread baskets I’ve ever encountered.
I am a lover of all things bread, but I haven’t ever encountered a complimentary bread platter at a restaurant that deserved its own feature post…until now. Upon being seated at BLT Steak, your server will present you with a platter of popovers – one for each person at your table. These are no ordinary popovers – these are extra-large, steaming hot popovers. They smell heavenly and taste even more so. They are served with deliciously creamy butter and a giant shaker of smoked sea salt. It’s an experience. It’s a ritual. First, you break open your popover, then you smear on a dollop of lovely, creamy butter, and then shake on some of the smoked salt. Take a bite – it will melt in your mouth and you will fall in love. As if that was not enough, you are also presented with a tiny recipe card, in case you feel inclined to conjure up some of these remarkable popovers on your own.
Of course, there was more to our meal. Tara ordered the Lobster “Cobb” Salad with avocado, cheddar, and pancetta. It looked divine. I had a beautiful Tuna Tartare (pictured), that was almost (but only almost) too pretty to eat. And while I was way too full to try a dessert, I did feel like I could, perhaps, have another popover (I didn’t, of course; although I did spend the next week or so plotting when I could return to have another one – maybe at happy hour with a nice big glass of red wine…)
