#208 – Get Ready for a Night of Glamour, Laughter, and Downright Fabulousness – Pageant: The Musical at 14th Street Playhouse Through October 24, 2010
If there’s one piece of live theatre you choose to see this fall, make it Pageant: The Musical, playing now at 14th Street Playhouse in Midtown.
Pageant: the Musical is basically a musical spoof of a beauty pageant where the “ladies” are actually men in drag. But it’s much more than a drag show. It’s a riotous love letter to the crazy world of pageants and and all of its wacky parts, including evening gown, swimsuit, talent, spokes-modeling, and beauty crisis counseling to callers in need.
Miss Deep South, Miss Bible Belt, Miss Industrial Northeast, Miss Great Plains, Miss Texas and Miss West Coast take the stage each night while competing for the crown and the title of “Miss Glamouresse.” And who is wins the crown? Well, that’s up to the audience! Each night, audience members or local celebrities are selected to be the pageant judges and the winner is different every night, and I can tell you from my own experience, sometimes it’s funnier when certain ladies don’t win (I’m looking at you, Miss Texas!).
Pageant: The Musical is directed by two-time Tony Award nominee Bill Russell and features an all-Atlanta cast, local talent you’ll want to see more of in their future projects around town. This Off-Broadway hit is sticking around Atlanta until October 24, 2010, so don’t miss your chance to join in the fun! Pageant: The Musical plays Wednesdays through Fridays at 8:00 PM, Saturdays at 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM, and Sundays at 2:30 PM. (Note: there are no shows September 1- 3 or September 5.) You can get your tickets online or by calling 14th Street Playhouse at 404-733-5000.
Don’t miss these lovely lads…um, “ladies”…as they strut their stuff nightly in pursuit of the “Miss Glamouresse” crown! It just might be the most fun you have this fall. Let the hair-pulling – I mean, beauty – begin!
