#233 – 25th Annual Sandy Springs Festival at Heritage Green – This Weekend, Saturday & Sunday, September 25 & 26, 2010
It’s an Indian summer here in Atlanta – everywhere you turn, people are complaining about the heat and wondering when the fall weather will arrive, since fall officially arrived on the calendar three days ago. Before you know it, however, we’ll all be complaining about the chill in the air, so I say get outside and enjoy these last few weekends of warmth and festivals!
The 25th Annual Sandy Springs Festival is this weekend and is a chance to get outside and enjoy these last few sunbeams before winter. On Saturday, September 25 and Sunday, September 26, Heritage Green comes alive with an anticipated 20,000 visitors. Originally conceived as a Founders’ Day celebration back in 1986, the Festival has grown into a huge community event. With a car show, a chance to visit the Sandy Springs Heritage Museum, a pet parade, and live music and entertainment, there’s something for everyone over the next two days and something a little different than your run-of-the-mill Atlanta summer festival.
The Kiwanis Pet Parade has become one of the highlights of the festival! Bring your furry friend and take part in celebrating your pet. You can register for the parade at the Festival Main Stage between 9:30 and 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 25. And it’s not just for our canine and feline friends – past entrants have even included parrots and ponies…you just don’t know what you’ll see! The parade takes place at 10:30 AM with an awards ceremony immediately following at 11:00 AM. With so many categories – Most Unusual, Most Colorful, Best Dressed Owner & Pet, Best Large Pet, Best Small Pet and Best Pet of Show – which one will you win? The remainder of the festival is also pet-friendly, but please remember to keep your furry friend on a leash!
The festival is open on Saturday from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM, and on Sunday from 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM. There is a nominal entry fee – $5.00 for adults over 18 (with discounts for children – see website for details) – the festival is a fundraiser for Heritage Sandy Springs, a not-for-profit organization that funds and operates Heritage Green, a four-acre City park located in the heart of Sandy Springs. You can buy your tickets at the gate!
Enjoy this sunshine and celebrate this weekend at the 25th Annual Sandy Springs Festival!
