#235 – Field of Greens Farm Festival This Weekend – Sunday, October 3, 2010 – PLUS Win a Pair of Tickets to the Festival!
This Sunday, October 3, 2010, is the popular Field of Greens – A Festival Celebrating Local Food at Whippoorwill Hollow Farm in Covington, Georgia. Located just 35 miles east of Atlanta, Field of Greens Festival celebrates organic farming and food, farm-to-table chefs and restaurants, locally-grown food, and green living – it’s a family-friendly festival you definitely don’t want to miss.
One admission price includes full access to the entire festival for the entire day. There will be live music, a kids’ zone, local farmers’ market and educational expo. From 12:00 noon until 3:00 PM, attendees can also enjoy small plates at the chefs’ tasting tent, featuring some of the best chefs and restaurants from Atlanta and Athens. Some of my favorite chefs will be there, including Ron Eyester from Rosebud, Terry Koval from Farm Burger, Eric Ottensmeyer from Leon’s Full Service, and Drew Van Leuvan from One Midtown Kitchen. Some chefs will also be presenting cooking demonstrations.
In addition, from 3:00 until 5:00 PM, Atlanta Street Food Coalition will be in attendance to offer up tastings of their fare from street food carts and trucks at the festival – including Westside Creamery, Good Food Truck, Grace’s Goodness, and Farm 255’s Farm Cart. You can also “walk the farm’s trails, visit the farm’s animals, check out the fruit trees and see what’s growing in the fields at Whippoorwill Hollow Farm, a 74-acre certified organic farm that sells at farmers markets in Atlanta” – it’s a rare opportunity to explore a working farm at your leisure and really experience all it has to offer!
Tickets are only $15 in advance or $20 at the gate (children 12 and under enjoy free admission). You can purchase tickets at selected locations of Whole Foods Market (Briarcliff, Ponce, Buckhead, and Harry’s in Marietta stores only) or online by clicking here. The festival is sponsored by Slow Food Atlanta, a nonprofit building a good, clean, and fair food system. “Event proceeds benefit and help to increase Georgia’s small-scale organic and sustainable farms through Slow Food Atlanta’s programs.” Festival hours at 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM.
