#249 – Come Look at the Freaks! Last Weekend to Catch “SideShow” at Onstage Atlanta – Friday and Saturday, October 15 & 16, 2010
October is the perfect month for the spooky, the strange, the stuff of nightmares. For your entertainment pleasure, Onstage Atlanta in Decatur is presenting Side Show, the Tony-nominated musical about a side show act that featured real-life conjoined twins, Daisy and Violet Hilton.
The haunting musical features some of the side show’s acts as supporting characters: the Bearded Lady, the Reptile Man, and the feared Cannibal. But a look behind the tent reveals a family of “freaks” who stick together for survival. Daisy and Violet, who are the starring characters, were sold by their mother as infants, and toured the United States in a side show act and later in vaudeville. The musical is a sympathetic – but sometimes harsh – look at their lives inside the tent and their struggles to live out their very different dreams, always together.
Directed by Onstage Atlanta’s Artistic Company Manager Barbara Cole Uterhardt and featuring some of Atlanta’s most beloved theatre regulars, this is a great show for October – a fun date night, with a little bit of spooky and a little bit of love story. The final two showtimes are Friday, October 15 and Saturday, October 16 at 8:00 PM. Tickets are $17.00 in advance ($20.00 at the door) for adults, with senior and student discounts available. Purchase tickets by visiting onstageatlanta.tix.com or calling (404) 897-1802.
