#269 – Atlanta Ballet Presents “Moulin Rouge” – A Breathtaking New Ballet Makes it Southeastern Premiere – Final Weekend of Performances, Today Through Sunday, October 31, 2010
The enchantment and allure of Paris and the famous Moulin Rouge is at the center of a brand new ballet, making it’s southeastern regional premiere right now with the Atlanta Ballet, presenting this new production of Moulin Rouge – The Ballet to Atlanta for its season-opener.
If you have never seen a production by the Atlanta Ballet – or if you’ve never been to a ballet anywhere – Moulin Rouge – The Ballet may be the perfect first ballet for you! A complaint I’ve often heard from friends who have been to the ballet and not enjoyed it, the number one reason was that it was too hard to follow, they didn’t understand what was going on. Moulin Rouge – The Ballet has an easy-to-follow storyline. (If you’ve seen the movie Moulin Rouge, the storyline may seem a bit familiar, though the ballet is not based on or related to the movie in any way.)
Moulin Rouge – The Ballet tells the tale of laundress-turned-Cancan star Nathalie and her romance with a young painter named Matthew. Drawn to Paris by the city’s seductive allure of ambition and desire, Matthew and Nathalie seek love and destiny in the magical atmosphere of the Moulin Rouge. Nathalie becomes the star at the infamous Moulin Rouge nightclub and learns that success comes with a price.
The gorgeous sets and breathtaking costumes combine to draw you into Paris of the 1880s. The ballet also combines a variety of exciting dance styles – from the obvious, ballet (of course) to the famous French can-can to the sexy tango, making for an amazing evening!
It’s a romance – albeit a tragic one. There’s intrigue. There’s action. There’s beautiful dancing. And yes, gentlemen, there are sexy girls, just as you would expect from the world’s most famous cabaret nightclub, Paris’s Moulin Rouge.
Tickets start at just $20.00. There are five performances remaining this weekend: Thursday, October 28 at 8:00 PM; Friday, October 29 at 8:00 PM; Saturday, October 30 at 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM; and Sunday, October 31 at 2:00 PM. A few final words to describe this incredible production: Exquisite. Breathtaking. Magnificent. Let’s see if you agree!
