#297 – The Rink at Park Tavern Opens for an Incredible Outdoor Ice-Skating Experience – Opening Thanksgiving Day!

the-rink-at-piedmont-park-atlanta-ga-2010Ice skating in Piedmont Park? Yup – it’s a reality, opening on Thanksgiving Day! For the first time, you can celebrate winter and the holidays with ice skating overlooking the beautiful Piedmont Park!

The Rink at Park Tavern opens tomorrow morning, with a special Breakfast with Santa from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM. Following that, The Rink will be open daily in the evenings,  starting at 5:00 PM from Monday November, 22, 2010 through Monday, February 14, 2011. Additionally, there will be four sessions daily on weekends and during holiday breaks when schools are closed: at 9:00 AM, 1:00 PM, 5:00 PM, and 9:00 PM. Each skating session is 3 ½ hours with ½ hour breaks to resurface the ice (ice resurfacing will be done with harvested rainwater – how cool is that?). And it’s not just for the kiddies! At 9:00 PM each night, The Rink at Park Tavern will only be open to adults, ages 21 and up!

I know I personally cannot wait to visit The Rink – any chance to celebrate winter but still live in the South is fantastic to me! It’s 85 feet long by 40 feet wide – large enough to accommodate 200 skaters! It’s located in the Garden Tent, which is heated for skaters’ comfort, but amazingly the rink itself stays frozen by having Glycol, a type of anti-freeze piped underneath it. A state-of-the-art sound system keeps the tunes playing for a great party atmosphere, and you can even dine rink-side at Park Tavern before or after your skating experience!

Tickets to skate are just $10.00 and skate rentals are only $5.00 (you can bring your own skates, if you have them). You can purchase your tickets online in advance by clicking here. You also have the option to buy a season pass for $300.00, good for unlimited skating at any and all sessions, regardless of whether they are sold out (does not apply to private parties, however, which will be kept private).

You can also book private parties, private skating lessons or even arrange to get engaged on the ice – for more information about these kinds of special events, you should visit www.parktavern.com.
