#331 – SHOP LOCAL! Big Daddy Biscuits, Making Atlanta Pooches Happy with Organic, All-Natural Dog Treats
365Atlanta believes in shopping locally and supporting Atlanta-area businesses. SHOP LOCAL! is our picks for local shopping picks for the holidays…and beyond!
I first met Lauren Janis, the founder and Chief Biscuit Maker for Big Daddy Biscuits, in the Roswell Post Office, mailing (what else?) Big Daddy Biscuits to some lucky pup. I immediately went home, checked out the website and ordered some treats for Charlie the Wonder Beagle (see how much he enjoys them? just check out the photo at right!). Big Daddy Biscuits is named after Big Daddy, Lauren’s formerly-stray and now much-loved pet and business partner. He was found severely malnourished and ill, but Lauren adopted him, nursed him back to health and made him the face of Big Daddy Biscuits. In Big Daddy’s honor, Lauren often partners with the Atlanta Humane Society, and in 2011 Big Daddy Biscuits will be sponsoring dogs and paying their adoption fees to help make them more adoptable and find their forever homes more quickly.
There are lots of reasons to treat your pooch to Big Daddy Biscuits. Besides the heartwarming story of Big Daddy and that the biscuits are made locally right here in Atlanta, Big Daddy Biscuits are all-natural and organic and made from “human-grade ingredients,” Lauren told me, such as certified organic whole wheat flour, fresh-ground organic peanut butter, organic cornmeal, local eggs (bought straight from the farm), and all natural brown sugar. That means you could safely eat them yourself (but I suggest you let your pup enjoy them instead!). After all, who doesn’t want to know that their furry family member is eating the best quality ingredients and the healthiest treats? I know I do!
With such Fido-favorite flavors as You Had Me At Bacon Turkey Bacon Bites, Flee Flea Cheese Bites with Garlic, and Crunchy Peanut Butter, even the most finicky canine will be satisfied! Big Daddy even makes Dinner Mints (made with brown rice flour, activated charcoal for digestion, parsley and mint) to freshen breath and make you as happy as your pooch! Can’t pick just one? Try out a Mixed Bag, featuring a combo of Cheese Bites, Peanut Butter and Turkey Bacon!
Prices range from $4.00+ for a 1/4 pound bag, $8.00+ for a 1/2 pound bag, and $15.00+ for a full pound. You can order online at www.bigdaddybiscuits.com – and though it’s too late now to get deliveries before Christmas, you can make every day be Christmas Day for your pup by ordering today and ordering often!
If you really need those treats in time to put them in your pup’s stocking, however, you can find Lauren and Big Daddy Biscuits today – Wednesday, December 22, 2010 – at the Decatur Farmers Market from 3:00 until 6:00 PM. Located at 163 Clairemont Avenue (at the corner of Commerce Drive and Church Street) in Decatur, Gerogia.
