Digging Out of the Snow – Atlanta’s “Snowpocalypse” 2011 – What Are You Most Looking Forward To After the Thaw?

snowcation-hothlanta-snowpocalypse-snowstorm-atlanta-ga-january-2011It’s had a lot of names…

Hothlanta…
Snowcation…
Snowpocalypse…

Whatever you call the winter storm of 2011, Atlanta has come full circle in how we feel about it. From Sunday night, with the wave of excitement surrounding the falling snow and the prospect of a snow day. To Monday, with the amazement we southerners feel to see the twinkle of whiteness on the ground in the morning, a day of sledding, snowman-building, and snowball fights ahead – forgetting that it also means our favorite restaurants and {gasp!} Starbucks will be closed that day. To Tuesday and Wednesday, with the growing frustration at being snowed- and iced-in, with some folks still unable to drive safely to work, bosses getting restless and threatening a loss of vacation days, parents whose kids are still out of school and unable to go to work and leave kids at home, groceries running low in pantries and on grocery store shelves, shipments not getting in or out because FedEx and UPS are paralyzed.

To today, with its warming temperatures and the promise of the last of the snow and ice melting (hopefully), our favorite stores, restaurants and Starbucks {!} locations are finally open today, even if they weren’t in the handful that never closed and we see hope on the horizon – school back in session, kids out of the house. Never have we been so excited to go back to work!

I’m there with ya, folks! I’ve been iced in at that top of a downhill driveway covered with ice, at the top of a neighborhood hill, also covered in ice. I’m excited to (finally) leave the house today for the first appointment I’ve been able to keep all week! And I’m looking forward to getting back in the saddle and give you some more great things to do here in our fabulous city!

We’ll be back tomorrow with #337 – are you ready to get out of the house and do something fun?

Tell us below what you’re MOST looking forward to doing, once the ice melts and you’re free!

Good Heavens! Our backyard is still a sheet of ice so I am staying put. I am looking forward to parties this weekend – a friend’s birthday and the Golden Globes on Sunday! And a drink out somewhere nice…The W Downtown perhaps? Or Lumen at The Ritz-Carlton Downtown.

My best friend of 20+ years has a birthday on Monday, so tomorrow night we will brave whatever if left of the snow/ice to celebrate. I can’t wait!
