#352 – Calling All Carnivores! Atlanta Meat Week is Here – Time to Chow Down! Through Sunday, February 6, 2011
If you’re a vegetarian, this is probably not a week you’ll be celebrating whole hog (haha – humor me, folks!). It’s a week for meat-lovers, for carnivores, for meat-and-potatoes types who enjoy and good stick-to-your-ribs kind of meal. You don’t have to don Lady Gaga’s meat dress to get in the groove. You just have to get out there and eat.
Here’s the run-down: it’s a group of BBQ enthusiasts (perhaps fanatics is a better word?) who gather to celebrate their love of meat and ‘cue at a variety of barbecue joints around Atlanta. They are the Atlanta Chapter of an international group (they have a chapter across the pond in London). Each night this week, they celebrate and sample barbecue at pre-set locations. Tonight’s joint is One Star Ranch in Buckhead at 7:30 PM, and the rest of the week looks like this:
Wed. 2/2 – Rolling Bones Barbecue in the Old Fourth Ward – 7:00 PM
Thurs. 2/3 – D.B.A. Barbecue in Virginia-Highland – 7:00 PM
Fri. 2/4 – Fox Brothers Bar BQ – 8:00 PM
Sat. 2/5 – Community Q BBQ – 2:00 PM
Sun. 2/6 – Party at the home of the Chapter Captain (see website for details)
What do you do if you want to go? Show up! Then prepare to eat, have your photo taken (most likely while eating), and pose for a group photo at the restaurant. While there are no rules for Meat Week, click here for a few things first-timers should know. And if you attend multiple times (at least 4 times, according to the website), you can vote in such esteemed categories as Best Sauce, Best Service, Best Sides, Best Atmosphere, and Best All-Around – and more!
Sound like it’s right up your alley? Then check out the Meat Week website and the Atlanta chapter’s Facebook page for more details and to ask questions – and then get out there and eat your heart out!
