Have Fun in the Sun at Virginia-Highland Summerfest This Weekend – Saturday and Sunday, June 4 & 5, 2011
For the 28th year running, the close-knit neighborhood of Virginia-Highland rolls out a giant welcome to the public and to summer with Summerfest! Two full days of public events take place this Saturday and Sunday, June 4 & 5, 2011. Taking place on the beautiful, tree-lined Virginia Avenue, between North Highland Avenue and Park Drive, Summerfest is a celebration of both a neighborhood and a season.
The weekend begins with the Summerfest 5K Race at 8:00 AM on Saturday, June 4 (followed by a Tot Trot at 8:45 AM) – it’s just $29.00 to enter ($8.00 for the tot trot). Interested runners should be sure to register online, as there is no race-day registration. The weekend continues after that at a much more leisurely pace, with live music on Saturday from 12:00 noon until 8:00 PM and Sunday from 12:15 PM until 6:00 PM (I’m particularly looking forward to my 90s fave, Marcy Playground, appearing on Sunday at 3:00 PM!), delicious food from local restaurants, and an expansive artists’ market (note that the artists’ market closes at 6:30 PM on Saturday), featuring art of all kinds in every price range. There’s also a Kidsfest to keep the little ones occupied with games, crafts, and activities – most of which are free. In addition, for you night owls, there’s a late-night acoustic stage and street party. On Friday, June 3 from 8:00 PM until 11:00 PM and on Saturday, June 4 from 9:00 PM until 11:00 PM, you can party and dance the night away!
Summerfest hours are Saturday, June 4, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 PM and Sunday, June 5, from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM. For information on parking, driving and MARTA directions, and all other details, visit the Summerfest website.
