Try Out Decatur’s Newest Restaurant – No. 246 – and Help Support Atlanta Community Food Bank! Tuesday, July 19, 2011

Decatur welcomes its newest restaurant, No. 246, with an evening in support of one of Atlanta’s favorite causes, the Atlanta Community Food Bank. No, 246, which just opened to the public last Wednesday, is a new partnership between Chef Ford Fry (owner and executive chef of JCT. Kitchen and Bar) and Chef Drew Belline (formerly chef de cuisine at Floataway Café). Featuring Italian-inspired dishes that rely on the local community for seasonal ingredients, Chef Belline has said, “the menu will be driven by what local producers have to offer.”

Tomorrow night – Tuesday, July 19, 2011, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM – No. 246 will donate 20% of your tab to the Atlanta Community Food Bank. What a great way to try out this new restaurant, make it one of your favorites, and help support ACFB! Just plan to dine at No. 246 and be sure to mention that you’re there to support the Atlanta Community Food Bank. (NOTE: No. 246 is not accepting reservations at this time, so arrive early to be sure you get a table!)

I had the pleasure last Monday of having dinner at No. 246 as part of one of their “friends and family” pre-opening night dinners. Below is a look at what we drank, ate, and saw at No. 246 – and why I’m hurrying back tomorrow night (both for the cocktails and food and of course for ACFB!). Our meal last Monday was chosen from a limited menu, so I am looking forward to trying some of the other items on the No. 246 full menu – including choosing from the selection of toasts (I’m looking at you, wood oven roasted figs, vinegar, almonds, basil) and the meat and cheese plates. And of course, the selection of handcrafted signature cocktails begs revisiting, especially for one what I think is the best Pimm’s Cup in the city, made a little different with the addition of Cynar, an artichoke liqueur (seriously good).

If you miss tomorrow night’s ACFB event, keep No. 246 in mind for the future – you definitely want to check out this great new restaurant in Decatur! I’ll post a more detailed look at the restaurant and menu soon.

Welcome to No. 246 - Decatur's newest restaurant, opened Wednesday, July 13, 2011

First things first - the drinks menu.

Pimm's Cup, No Choke - quite possibly one of the best Pimm's Cups in town. Pimm's, lemon, Cynar, muddled cucumber, housemade limoncello.

Aperol Spritz - a little bitter, a little spicy, a lot good. Aperol, Prosecco, soda water, orange slice, blood orange bitters, pink peppercorn.

Old Pal - a surprising hint of sweetness at the end. Old Overholt Rye, Campari, Punt E Mes.

Fresh crusty bread with rich olive oil and kosher salt - a perfect beginning.

Local arugula with lemony garlic anchovy dressing, parmesan.

Spaghetti - Georgia white shrimp, garlic, pequin chilies, breadcrumbs.

Skirt steak - wood oven roasted, romesco, roasted potatoes.

Gelato - mint and espresso. A light end to a delicious meal - the mint was, by far, some of the best gelato I've ever tasted.

Full disclosure: No. 246 graciously hosted us for this event and our bill was comped by the house. However, all opinions expressed here are my own.
