The second annual Battle of the Burgers took place in John Howell Park in Virginia-Highland on Saturday, October 1, 2011, and was a smashing success! Benefiting Embraced, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization that collects and shares gently-used medical equipment with individuals in need – both locally and globally, 25 local Atlanta restaurants served up hundreds of specialty burgers while competing for the the coveted prizes: titles of the Best Burger in Atlanta.
Congratulations to all of the participants for supporting such a wonderful cause and to the very deserving winners:

- Best Contemporary Burger – The Nook
- Best Classic Burger – Deckard’s American Tavern
- Best Veggie/Organic Burger – Atkins Park

The Battle of the Burgers Ballot Board, where the ballots were cast for the People's Choice - Best Burger in Atlanta

Cypress Street Pint and Plate's entry, the Cypress Street High Road Craft Ice Cream Burger: all-natural chuck patty topped with High Road Cheddar Cheese Granny Smith Apple ice cream, coasted in crushed frosted flakes, between two toasted waffles

Executive Chef William Taylor from The Warren City Club, hard at work making burgers and cheering on his team

The Warren City Club's entry: bacon-bleu cheese burger with sriracha aioli, arugula, and a fried green tomato

WINNER! Best Contemporary Burger - The Nook's entry, the Southern Comfort burger: southern fried bacon, stuffed with mac & cheese, topped with Southern Comfort BBQ sauce, and hot potato chips

Taqueria del Sol's burger-taco featured New Mexico peppers, only available for 6 weeks a year, topped with cheese dip

Kaleidoscope Bistro and Pub's chefs cooking up the burgers to defend their title with a 1/4-lb patty topped with Kirby slaw, green tomato chow-chow, Hobb's applewood smoked bacon, extra sharp Tillamook Cheddar, served on Brioche bread with a bread & butter pickle

Murphy's served up a bacon cheddar burger, as well as this specialty entry, a chicken, spinach and bacon burger, topped with housemade pesto mayo and swiss cheese

Highland Tap's table displaying their bacon-cheddar burger: apple smoked bacon, aged Wisconsin Cheddar, topped with tomato jam

Hudson Grille's fiery entry, The Flamethrower: grilled certified Angus beef with crispy fried jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, 3 mile island sauce, and chipotle mayo

Midtown Tavern's entry, The Ridiculous: patty, BBQ pork belly, grilled onion, cheddar, and chow-chow

Strip served up a tasty little burger on mini Belgian waffles with fried egg, arugula, red pepper, Fontina cheese, and sriracha jelly

Grindhouse Killer Burgers frying up fresh ground chuck, which they topped with a roasted habanero-lime aioli, pickled Vidalia onions, and mixed greens

WINNER! Best Classic Burger - Deckard's American Tavern served up a brisket burger, with homemade pimento cheese, fire-roasted green chilies, and a BBQ bacon relish

Fun and games at the Diesel Filling Station tent, where they were dishing out a ground beef and bacon burger, topped with Guinness-horseradish mustard, Coca-Cola ketchup, American cheese, homemade pickles, and caramelized onions on a potato bun

Village Burger entered a healthier specialty burger option: a turkey burger with pepper jack cheese and a housemade guacamole

Atkins Park Tavern's vegetarian entry, the amigo: black bean patty topped with roasted poblano chilies, guacamole, and pepper jack cheese
